Our goal is to help the humanized monkeys slowly become what God created them to be. Each Primate will transition as they are comfortable doing so. Some may take longer than others, but the end goal is the same. To help them become dependent on their own species within a troop and to enjoy the rest of their lives enjoying nature and playing in the trees. Trying to give them a healthy mix of human/monkey interactions & relationships.

Our cat, Mini, gets along with Louie very well. We're not sure who taught who to climb trees. Sometimes we are convinced that she thinks she's a monkey!

Just a monkey doing what God created them to do! Enjoying another day at the Sanctuary. We are now taking Spider Monkey Re-homes. Feel free to contact us today (228)365-6578 We can travel to pick up.

The Spider Octagon outdoor enclosure has many ropes and toys. Swings, climbing structures, tall perches and many ropes to swing on. Great sun exposure for natural vitamin D and exercise.

Louie plays in the Octagon Spider enclosure as much as possible! He's to the point that he just wants to be outside in 'his area' and diaper free. This is a great transition for this humanized Primate. We are still playing and socializing with him, but he's transitioning well into the monkey's own space and out of the human home. He's enjoying just being a monkey.

Dr Askew (also on our Board of Directors), Ensuring all our new residents have the proper diet according to blood work results and all medical needs met. Looking for any unknown injuries so they can be properly treated, teeth examined for any hidden infections and vaccines updated. This ensures their best life!

We love our Kinkajous! We were blessed to be able to provide these beautiful animals with a forever home. We take in Arboreal Animals.

This sweet boy was a re-home pet that could no longer stay at his current place. He was well taken care of and was loved. We're honored his owners chose us to care for him. He will be spending the rest of his golden years with us and we couldn't be happier! He's a handsome sweet boy and we adore him.

Our residents have to trust us. It's a huge responsibility to ensure we maintain a trusting relationship with all of our residents. We want them to remain in a stress free environment and know that they are loved.
Our Mission

Our Mission
Gulf Coast Primate Sanctuary is a USDA-licensed, nonprofit 501(c)(3) monkey sanctuary located in a peaceful community in South Mississippi. We exist to provide permanent, lifetime care for New World Monkeys who have nowhere else to go.
Many of the primates who arrive at our sanctuary have endured instability — ex-pets, individuals from the entertainment industry, zoos, laboratories, breeding facilities or monkeys confiscated by authorities. They come to us with different background stories. Some have history of trauma and need to rebuild trust. They cannot return to the wild. They deserve safety, dignity, and lifelong protection.
With a specialized care team that includes two primate-focused veterinarians, experienced caregivers, and trained volunteers, we provide the highest standard of medical, physical, and behavioral care possible — always in accordance with USDA regulations and the Animal Welfare Act.
Monkeys need monkeys. Social structure matters. Stability matters. We work intentionally to build appropriate troop environments that allow each species to live as naturally and socially as possible outside of their native habitat.
But healing does not stop with the animals.
Through our UNPLUGGED program, we extend our mission to veterans and first responders navigating PTSD and stress-related challenges. In a structured, supervised, USDA-compliant environment, participants assist with sanctuary operations and learn the same principles that help our primates recover: consistency, patience, boundaries, and earned trust.
Primates mirror energy. Trust cannot be forced. It must be built.
As our monkeys regain stability, participants often rediscover it within themselves.
At Gulf Coast Primate Sanctuary, we are not simply housing primates.
We are restoring stability.
We are protecting dignity.
We are building trust — one life at a time.

We understand, first hand, how tight a bond is between a monkey and their caregiver. The respect and understanding of this bond is exactly what motivates us to do the absolute best we can to make a transition as stress free as possible for the monkey and caregiver. We want what is best for these beautiful and loved individuals.
